TRAINING
ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Our English courses give women the confidence and language needed for everyday life, starting with E1, for women with little or no English, through to near fluency. The focus is spoken and leads to Trinity Entry level 1, 2 and 3 and Level 1 qualifications. We also offer a literacy course specifically for women of all levels of spoken English who need help with basic reading and writing.
GCSE English is a demanding accademic course which involves analysing literary and media texts. You will need to have an interview to find out if this course is appropriate for you. The course leads to GCSE qualification.
SEWING
This Beginners Dressmaking course will help you make clothes and basic soft furnishings for yourselves and your family. You will learn how to alter shop bought paterns and follow instructions in order to complete garments using domestic machines. (Knowledge required : none)
Our Industrial Machining course will give you the skills to work in the garment trade as a machinist, learn how to use professional techniques involving collars, cuffs, waistbands etc. The course also covers an introduction to pattern cutting, drawing & machine embroidery. (knowledge required : basic sewing skills)
The Sample Machining course is for you if you want to learn professional techniques for completed garments. It is ideal if you are a designer or textile student with design skills wishing to improve your professional sewing abilities. (knowledge required: Industrial Sewing Skills)
BASIC I.T.
These are introductory courses to computers covering word processing, spreadsheets, graphical representation of data and the internet. The courses are for women with no computing experience and lead to OCR New Clait level 1 & Level 2.
